About
Hearing loss is a major problem around the world.
In 1981, with financing help from the Australian Government, Cochlear Limited was founded based on hearing implants designed by Dr Graeme Clark who is a professor at the University of Melbourne.
Based in Sydney, Australia, Cochlear LTD manufactures and sells hearing devices all over the world. As a matter of fact, Cochlear holds well over 2/3rds of the world market for hearing implants.
Cochlear at this time, manufactures 3 types of hearing implants and is researching more. The 3 are:
- Nucleus – Implanted behind the ear that uses an electrode to relay sounds to the brain.
- Hybrid – This is an implant combined with a hearing aid.
- Baha – This uses bone to transmit sound; a small titanium implant that integrates with the bone behind a person’s ear.
Cochlear’s hearing implants are sold in over 100 countries worldwide. And they continue to research even better ways to help humans hear.
