East Japan Railway Company operates as a passenger railway company in Japan. The company operates through three segments: Transportation, Retail & Services, Real Estate & Hotels, and Others segments. The Transportation segment offers passenger transportation services primarily through Shinkansen network that serves Eastern Honshu, Japan, as well as conventional lines in the Kanto area and other networks. As of March 31, 2017, it operated 69 railway lines; 1,665 railway stations; and 7,457.3 kilometers of railway network. It is also involved in the provision of agency and cleaning services; station operations; facilities maintenance activities; and railcar manufacturing operations and maintenance operations. The Retail & Services segment engages in retail sales and restaurant operations, wholesale and truck transportation business, and advertising and publicity activities. The Real Estate & Hotels segment operates shopping centers and hotels; and leases office buildings and other properties. It operated 162 shopping centers; and 44 hotels with a total of 6,533 guest rooms. The Others segment is involved in credit card, information processing, and other businesses. In addition, the company bus, travel agency, machinery and rolling stock maintenance, car leasing, construction, consulting, publishing, truck delivery, seminar and staff sending, and accounting services; supplies linen, and thermal renewable energy; and operates ski resorts. East Japan Railway Company was founded in 1987 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
